Introduction to The Law of Attraction
Imagine yourself being an enormous magnet; the type that can pull and attract any metal from a far distance. It doesn’t attempt or struggle to attract, it just does. That’s the same for us. It doesn’t matter whether we try to or not, we are attracting at all times. And the only time we stop is when we’re sleeping. And usually what we think about and like a lot, we attract. If what we constantly think about is lack and what we don’t have, we will attract just that; lack. If our minds are always on who and what we love and or enjoy, we will attract more of the things and or people we love and enjoy. I understand that this may seem unbelievably simple, but it is. The Law of Attraction isn’t a brand new occurrence; the premise behind its teachings and beliefs has been around for many, many years. And though the Law of Attraction merely says that you draw into your life whatever you focus on and think about the most, whether it is negative or positive, the strongest, most concentrated thoughts will be manifested. This is apparent in the world we live in… remember age-old sayings like, ‘birds and animals of the same kind stick together,’ or ‘let me know the company you keep and I’ll know the kind of company you are’.
The phrase Law of Attraction initially surfaced in 1906 when a publisher and author by the name of William Walker Atkinson launched his new book on this thought movement. The book was called “Vibration Thought or The Thought World with the Law of Attraction”. His effort introduced the principles of vibration, energy, manifestation, and thought in a very methodical and meticulous manner. Atkinson was the first to clarify the power and importance of love to materialize desires.
This Law of Attraction is one of the better known universal laws. The theory behind the Law of Attraction is simply that our thoughts help us create and re-create what we want in reality. We draw things we want and don’t want towards us. We draw and attract the different people in our individual lives, all the things in our houses and the riches we possess by our feelings and thoughts. This belief that one’s mental disposition attracts similar external circumstances and events is not believed by all. But when and if our beliefs are restricted, we attract restricted and limited wealth thus compromising our well-being. When we consider that any and every thing is possible, all the limits are removed! Actually, you can shatter the glass ceiling on the skies with your amazing and optimistic thoughts. When we center on lack and what we don’t have, we are creating a reality of ‘less-than.’ But, if we center on being plentiful and content we will have a wonderful reality.
Even though the theory behind the Law of Attraction is quite simple, the work is actually putting the law into practice. Pessimistic and restrictive systems of belief are hidden inside us. Freeing yourself of old ideas and habits can be done because they do nothing but defeat you. Let’s look at the meat of this law. First, you must ask, knowing what you really want so it can be manifested. Second, you must really believe that what you want and ask for will be yours. Every doubt has to be pushed aside. Third and finally, you have to be ready to receive when opportunity comes your way and you can not hesitate.
On a deeper level, the Law of Attraction is based on the concept that everything in the universe is simply energy. Throughout history, scientists have started to comprehend this fact too, and particularly in quantum physics, it is now an acceptance that all objects are really just vibrating energy at a specific frequency. It does not matter who you are, where you live, what your religious beliefs are, what year you were born…the Law is true for everyone equally. It is as true as the Law of Gravity. We, as humans, are in fact very dominant attractors and we all can use this astonishing power to attract and draw more of what we desire in life just by being mindful of where we place our focus.
An old biblical proverb states: “What a man thinks about in the heart, he becomes.” (Proverbs 23:7) It’s fascinating that the author says, ‘thinks about in the heart” because a majority of time, we believe that we do our ‘thinking’ with our mind. Yet, it is really from within the heart that we do most of our believing and thinking. It is from the heart that we attract. Since this is the case, keep your heart and mind focused on the positive things you want and it will be easier to get rid of the negative things you do not want.
